The 197th Anniversary of the foundation of the Armenian College and Philanthropic Academy (ACPA) was celebrated at the school auditorium on Monday, April 02, 2018 at 6 pm.

The occasion was graced by Very Rev. Father Movses Sargsyan, Manager of Armenian College and Pastor of Armenians in India; H. E. Mr Armen Martirosyan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia in the Republic of India as the Chief Guest; Mr Jamie Dragon, Public Affairs Officer, US Consulate General, Kolkata and Director of American Center, Kolkata as the Guest of Honour; Chairman, Wardens and Members of the Committee of the Armenian Holy Church of Nazareth; members of the Armenian Community of Kolkata; staff and students of Armenian College.

The programme commenced with the Lord’s Prayer by Very Rev. Father Movses Sargsyan, followed by the National Anthems of Armenia, India and the School Anthem of ACPA.

The Principal then presented the Annual Report for 2017 – 18. This was followed by the encouraging and enlightening speeches of the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour.

Thereafter, the audience was enthralled by the dance performances to Armenian Songs by the boys and the girls of the junior classes, a Bharatnatyam dance, a short poetic drama in English and a speech by the school captain Gevorg Mkrtchyan.

The performances were followed by the presentation of the Awards for Excellence in the fields of Academics and Sports which were given to Vladimir Minasyan and Azat Papyan respectively and souvenirs were distributed to the students of the ICSE 2018 batch.

Very Rev. Father Movses Sargsyan felicitated Mr Pabitra Sen, a teacher of mathematics and physics of the senior school, who retired from service on March 31, 2018, in recognition of his dedicated service.

The School Choir then rendered four melodious songs in Armenian.

The programme concluded with a benediction by Very Rev. Father Movses Sargsyan, in which he paid his utmost respect and gratitude to the Founders of the institution. He also advised the students to utilize their educational opportunity to the fullest by absorbing the knowledge that is imparted to them by putting in their “mind, will and skill” for shaping their own lives.

There were exhibitions of Arts and Embroidery at the west end of the auditorium.

Finally, everyone present enjoyed the Anniversary Cake and the special dinner, in the dining hall of the School.
