At the stroke of midnight on August 15, 1947, India became an independent nation, freeing itself from the yoke of a 190-year-old British domination. In 1950, India was declared a “SOVEREIGN DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC” and secured to all its citizens: “JUSTICE, social, economic and political; LIBERTY, of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship; EQUALITY of status and of opportunity; and to promote among them all FRATERNITY assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity and integrity of the Nation.”
On 15th August 2017, Armenian College and Philanthropic Academy celebrated the 70th Anniversary of Independence Day of India. Very Rev. Fr. Movses Sargsyan, Pastor of Armenians in India and the Manager of Armenian College and Philanthropic Academy, commenced the celebration with Prayer and then hoisted the Indian National Flag. The students and members of staff of Armenian College sang the Indian National Anthem followed by the Armenian National Anthem and the School Song.
On this occasion, Very Rev. Father Movses spoke elaborately on the history of Indian Freedom Struggle. He paid his homage to the generations who fought for FREEDOM. He encouraged students to learn that “Divided we fall and United we stand’. In his speech, he congratulated and expressed his gratitude to the people of India and said, “I salute India on this auspicious day, and pray for its glory”.
There was arrangement for refreshment for all the students and members of the staff.
