Fr. Movses Sargsyan

Very Rev. Fr. Movses Sargsyan was born on 17th October 1984 in Meghrazhor village of Kotayk Region, Republic of Armenia, and was given the baptismal name Artak.

He received his primary education at the secondary school No.10 in Hrazdan City, subsequent to which, he was admitted to Meghrazhor Secondary School. He completed his schooling in 2001.

Thereafter, in 2002 he was admitted to the Gevorkian Theological Academy in Holy Etchmiadzin.

On 25th December 2006, on the day of the Feast of Saint Stephen the Protodeacon, he was ordained to the diaconate by His Grace Bishop Ararat Galthagchyan.

In 2008 he successfully defended his final thesis entitled “The Life of Deacon Mesrob Thaghiadyan; bibliography and morals”. Upon his graduation he was assigned to serve as the Secretary in the Procurement Department of Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, Vagharshapat, Republic of Armenia.

On May 15, 2009 by the blessings of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians; he was appointed as the regiment Chaplain of Artsakh Defense Army.

On October 31, 2010 he was ordained as a celibate priest, by Right Rev. Bishop Mkrtich Proshian, Vicar of the Diocese of Aragatzotn and was given the name Movses. Following his ordination, he continued his service in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia.

In January 2012, His Gace Bishop Vertanes Abrahamyan, the spiritual head of the Armenian Church Chaplaincy appointed him as a Division Chaplain of the Artsakh Defense Army.

In September 2012, he was appointed by His Holiness Karekin II as the Assistant Head of the Armenian Church Chaplaincy of the Republic of Armenia.

In 2014 he attended classes at the Defense Language Institute English Language Center, San Antonio, United States of America and in the U. S. Army Chaplain Center and School, Fort Jackson.

From May 2015, he was appointed by the Head of the Armenian Church Chaplaincy as the Chief Chaplain of the Artsakh Defense Army.

In August 2015, he was appointed to serve in the Diocese of the Armenian Church of the United Kingdom and Ireland as the spiritual pastor of St. Yeghiche Church, London. He also attended English Language Classes at the Kensington English Academy.

In January 2016, he was reappointed to serve as the spiritual pastor of the Artsakh Defense Army.

On April 1, 2016 by the directive of His Holiness he has been appointed as the Pastor of the Indian Armenians, Manager of Armenian College & Philanthropic Academy and Davidian Girls’ School.
